Breaking a promise is a major sin, hated and condemned by Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. The matter was emphasised in the Friday Sermon titled "Promises: Easy to Proclaim, Heavy to Fulfil." The sermon also outlined that keeping and fulfilling promises is a symbol of honesty and purity of one's heart.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Imam or prayer leader explained that in this world, individuals are always bound by promises, whether to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala, the Prophet Sallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam, or mankind. A promise to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala involves fulfilling acts of worship. Meanwhile, a promise to the Messenger of Allah (Sallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam) involves following his journey, life, and teachings. The sermon further elaborated that succeeding in keeping one's promise to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and his Messenger translates to successfully keeping promises to others. Conversely, failing to fulfil promises to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala and his Messenger indicates a lack of trustworthiness, as fulfilling promises is characteristic of those with noble character and piety.
