Bandar Seri Begawan: Envy is recognized as one of the most destructive traits in human beings, capable of inflicting harm on individuals and causing negative effects on families, societies, and even nations. This was among the topics addressed during the Friday Sermon titled "The Harms of Envy and Jealousy". The sermon emphasized the importance of emulating the morals of Prophet Muhammad Shallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam, who was noted for never being envious of others.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Allah SWT tests His servants by bestowing blessings in varying degrees, which are sometimes unequal. Some individuals receive blessings quickly, while others experience delays; some receive more, while others receive less. This distribution is not a sign of injustice from Allah SWT but rather a reflection of His wisdom, granting blessings according to each person's circumstances. The sermon pointed out that when someone receives many blessings, others may question why they were not the recipients or why their blessings are delayed, which can lead to feelings of envy.
Envy can create division and disagreement, disrupting social harmony and leading to conflicts within communities. The sermon underscored the need for individuals to control these feelings and to recognize the wisdom behind the unequal distribution of blessings as a test from Allah SWT.
