Jerudong: Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressed a ceremony marking the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, emphasizing a significant reduction in traffic fatalities by 50 percent over the past decade in Brunei Darussalam. However, she noted a concerning rise in recent accidents and fatalities, urging for more vigorous and proactive measures to tackle the issue.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Her Royal Highness, serving as the Royal Patron of the National Road Safety Council (MKKJR), delivered her remarks during the ceremony held at Royal Berkshire Hall, Tarindak D’ Polo, Jerudong on the morning of November 13th. The event underscored the importance of coordinated efforts in enhancing road safety and reducing traffic-related incidents.
Upon her arrival, Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications and Chairperson of MKKJR. In his welcoming address, the Minister highlighted MKKJR’s initiatives aimed at ensuring that every main road in the country achieves a rating of at least 3-stars or more.
Her Royal Highness further elaborated on the role of MKKJR as a crucial platform for coordinating integrated and systematic actions aimed at achieving comprehensive road safety targets. The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims served as a reminder for citizens and residents to reflect on their collective responsibilities in making the nation’s roads safer.
