Bandar seri begawan: The Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court has imposed a fine of $6,300 on Yong Teck Sang following his guilty plea to three charges under Section 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005 on 16th September 2025. The case involved the storage of non-compliant food items at T.T. Blues Cafe And Restaurant in Gadong.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the violations came to light when Enforcement Officers from the Halal Food Control Division, Syariah Affairs Department, conducted a routine inspection on 26th September 2023. During the inspection, officers discovered a 25-litre barrel of lard, 35 packets of solidified duck blood, and 57 other food items with questionable halal status believed to have been smuggled into Brunei Darussalam.
On the same day, authorities seized the Halal Certificate and Halal Supervisor Certificate from the premise. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has reiterated the importance of adherence to halal certification requirements by restaurant operators and food service providers in the country, stressing the need for all food ingredients to be syarak-compliant.
