Bandar Seri Begawan: The 48th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group (MTWG) has convened as the primary coordinating and implementing body under the ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM), advancing regional initiatives in the maritime transport sector. The meeting plays a crucial role in shaping the future direction of ASEAN's maritime agenda, focusing on enhancing regional connectivity and digitalization.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Awang Haji Mohammad Salihin Haji Aspar, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Transport at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, emphasized in his speech the strategic importance of the 48th MTWG. He noted that the meeting serves as a platform for ASEAN Member States (AMS) and Dialogue Partners to collaborate on advancing the region's maritime agenda. The two-day meeting addresses ASEAN's progress under the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan 2016-2025, emphasizing strategic actions such as the development of the ASEAN Single Shipping Market, cooperation among 47 designated ports, and the enhancement of maritime connectivity.
The meeting aims to boost the global competitiveness and climate resilience of the maritime transport sector, reflecting ASEAN's commitment to strengthening regional integration and cooperation.
