Bangladeshi Man Fined Over $65,000 for Customs Contraband Possession

Bandar Seri Begawan: A Bangladeshi man has been fined more than $65,000 or faces 23 months imprisonment if he defaults on the payment for possessing customs contraband.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Lalchand Mahmud Santo faces two charges related to the possession of contraband items. The first charge involves the possession of 57 cartons and 10 packets of cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit, in violation of Section 146(1)(D) of the Excise Order 2006. The second charge pertains to the possession of 28 bottles of alcoholic drinks of various brands, also without a valid permit, under the same section of the Excise Order 2006.

All the contraband items confiscated from Santo are set to be handed over to the Government for destruction, in compliance with the regulations.
