BIBD Issues Warning Over Rise in Smishing Scams

Bandar seri begawan: Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad, BIBD advises the public to be wary of an increase in the Short Messaging Service, SMS phishing scams falsely claiming to be from BIBD.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the SMS phishing involves fraudsters sending deceptive text messages to trick recipients into revealing their personal or banking information. The messages may appear to be official communication from the Bank with the intention to steal confidential information such as passwords, account numbers, or one-time passwords (OTPs) from the recipients. BIBD reminds the public that it will never ask for sensitive information via unsolicited SMS, phone calls, or other unverified communication channels.

The public are reminded to never share banking details including OTPs with anyone, even if the request seems urgent or official and avoid clicking on any links of suspicious messages. For safety purposes, contact BIBD through official channels. If anyone believes they have been targeted o
r compromised by such scams, report the incident immediately to the Royal Brunei Police Force.
