Kampung sungai mau: Despite unfavorable weather conditions, astronomy enthusiasts in Brunei gathered to witness the ‘Blood Moon’ phenomenon, an event organized by the Astronomical Society of Brunei Darussalam (PABD) in collaboration with local councils and the Belait District Office. The sighting event took place at the Kampung Sungai Mau Multi-Purpose Hall, drawing participants eager to catch a glimpse of the celestial event.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the gathering included prominent attendees such as Awang Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, Acting Belait District Officer, and members of the Legislative Council, Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman and Yang Berhormat Awang Mohammad bin Abdullah ALIAS Lim Swee Ann. Despite the anticipation, the Blood Moon remained obscured by clouds throughout most of the sighting period from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. It was not until after the full lunar eclipse phase ended that the moon became visible.
The Blood Moon phenomenon was also observed in other parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In Brunei, a similar event was held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, also in collaboration with PABD, although participants at this location faced similar weather challenges.
