Bandar seri begawan: The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) has reported a significant shift in the tactics of the Macau Scam syndicate, a criminal group responsible for defrauding victims of over 2 million dollars since November 2024. The Deputy Commissioner of Police revealed at a press conference that the syndicate has begun meeting victims in person to enhance the credibility of their scams, marking a departure from their previous reliance on online communications and transactions.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the RBPF has received reports of 110 Macau Scam cases involving substantial financial losses. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of vigilance among the public and urged community leaders, particularly at the grassroots level, to disseminate information to prevent further victimization. Family members are also encouraged to play a proactive role in educating others about potential scams. The public is advised to verify suspicious phone calls, text messages, or emails by contacting the RBPF at 16993.
