Tokyo: Brunei Darussalam has reaffirmed its commitment to developing sustainable digital infrastructure and responsible digital practices. The announcement was made by the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications during the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) Ministerial Meeting 2025 held recently in Tokyo, Japan. The minister emphasized the significance of integrating climate resilience into digital development strategies and stressed the importance of bridging the digital divide.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, highlighted the need for continuous improvements in cybersecurity practices. He also called for enhanced international and regional collaboration in the field of cybersecurity.
During the event, Yang Berhormat engaged in a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Adachi Masashi, the State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. Their discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Japan in key areas, including digital connectivity, cybersecurity, capacity building, and the advancement of artificial intelligence. Both parties committed to fostering an inclusive and secure digital transformation across the region.
The APT Ministerial Meeting brought together 31 Members and 2 Associate Members who were briefed on the progress and achievements related to the ‘Singapore Statement.’ The meeting concluded with the adoption of the ‘Tokyo Statement,’ which outlines the direction for strengthening regional digital cooperation over the next five years.
