Flash floods have flooded several villages in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, affecting more than 500 households. Although the water has started to recede, some areas are still flooded more than 1 meter high. Hundreds of houses in the Ton Kaew community, Rim Tai sub-district, and Thong Fai community, Rim Nuea sub-district, Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province, some areas are still flooded with water higher than 1 meter. Some villagers were unable to collect their belongings in time and had to let them sink after the flash flood flowed into the Mae Rim River, overflowing quickly since early this morning. In just 1 hour, the water was higher than 2 meters, and belongings were damaged. Villagers in the Ton Kaew community said that their house, which is near the Mae Rim River, has been flooded three times this year. The floodwaters had only receded for one day before they had time to pack their belongings. The floodwaters had already hit again, making life difficult for their family and eight cats. They had to go to the bathroom at a temple near their house and a gas station. While many families in both communities have been moving their belongings to escape the floodwaters since the last flood, the floodwaters this time are higher than before, causing more damage to their homes and potentially putting them in the middle of flooding for days. The floodwaters that have flooded both Mae Rim and Mae Taeng districts, which are located to the north of Chiang Mai, will flow into the Ping River, which will cause the water level in the Ping River to rise. It is expected to reach its highest level of almost 5 meters tonight (3 October), which will cause the water to overflow into Chiang Mai again. Source: Thai News Agency
