Friday Sermon Highlights Role of Malay Language in Brunei’s Identity

Bandar seri begawan: In a recent Friday sermon titled "The Malay Language: The Soul, Identity and National Character," the importance of language in reflecting morals and ethics was emphasized. The sermon highlighted the Islamic principle of using good and polite language, which not only mirrors a person's character but also fosters harmony and leaves a positive impression.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the sermon underscored that in Brunei Darussalam, the Malay language serves not only as a means of communication but as a crucial symbol of identity and unity. It is integral to the formation of community identity and culture. The sermon stressed that language is the nation's soul, and losing the Malay language would mean eroding a vital part of Bruneian heritage and identity.

The Malay language is closely linked to the Malay Islamic Monarchy Philosophy, through which Islamic values are conveyed, traditions preserved, and knowledge passed down. The importance of using the Malay language correctly and respectfully was noted, urging parents, teachers, community leaders, and youths to maintain its dignity and avoid degrading it with disrespectful language.
