Periodic Reviews on Critical Infrastructure and Involvement of Local Contractors Approved

The sitting proceeded to the Committee of Supply Debate for the Ministry of Development, raising several issues, including periodic reviews on critical infrastructure and the involvement of local contractors.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the discussions emphasized the importance of conducting periodic reviews of critical infrastructure sites and pathways to ensure the preparedness of the country's system. The competence of contractors and suppliers was highlighted, with a focus on involving local contractors in the construction industry.

There was a call for an action plan to systematically address village road maintenance problems. In addition, international construction standards are being adapted to national infrastructure and construction projects to align with global benchmarks.

The introduction of a more dynamic mixed method, known as 'ASFAT', aims to reduce road maintenance expenses. The 'Waste-to-Energy system' project was also discussed, with its potential to improve environmental sustainability.

Efforts to improve road structures were noted, along with the use of technology to ensure road durability. Upgrading road levels in low-lying areas prone to flooding was also considered a priority.

Initiatives to strengthen recycling efforts in a comprehensive and integrated manner were highlighted. Capacity studies and sustainable water infrastructure development, including the integration of alternative water sources, were also part of the discussions.
