Sultan of Brunei to Attend 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is scheduled to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 26th to 27th May 2025.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Malaysia, as this year's Chair of ASEAN, is emphasizing the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability". This theme highlights ASEAN's dedication to fostering regional resilience and prosperity, and to enhancing collaboration amidst global challenges and external pressures. The summits will also feature the 2nd ASEAN G.C.C Summit and the ASEAN-G.C.C-China Summit on 27th May 2025, aiming to strengthen ties with leaders from ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (G.C.C), and the People's Republic of China.

The summits will focus on collaborative efforts to implement priority areas and key deliverables under Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship. They aim to promote closer relations between ASEAN, the G.C.C, and China, guided by shared principles and values. The events will highlight the significance of multilateralism, regional unity, and international law in addressing shared challenges, while reinforcing ASEAN Centrality in the regional architecture to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity.

Additionally, the 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit will be held alongside the 46th ASEAN Summit. Established in 1994 by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, BIMP-EAGA focuses on driving development in remote and underdeveloped areas. Its objectives include advancing a competitive and environmentally friendly manufacturing sector, creating sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural and fisheries industries, and promoting the tourism sector.
