Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, received a report from the Minister of Foreign Affairs that Thailand was honored to be elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term 2025-2027 (United Nations Human Rights Council: UNHRC) from the vote in the United Nations General Assembly. In this election, it is a matter of great pleasure that Thailand was elected with the highest number of votes, 177, in the Asia-Pacific region, which is the highest number ever in the region, reflecting Thailand's commitment to promoting and protecting human rights both domestically and internationally toda y. Thailand will begin its duties as a member of the UNHRC from 1 January 2025 for a three-year term, along with 18 other countries selected: Thailand, Benin, Bolivia, Colombia, Czech Republic, Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Iceland, Kenya, Marshall Islands, Mexico, North Macedonia, Qatar, Spain, South Korea, and Switzerland. 'The government believes that its participation as a member of the UNHRC will help raise human rights standards both domestically and internationally, as well as enhance Thailand's image on the international stage.
