Consumer Price Index Sees 0.3% Decrease in February 2026

Bandar seri begawan: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February 2026 recorded a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to February 2025.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Department of Economic Planning And Statistics, Ministry of Finance and Economy, stated in its press release that the decrease was mainly due to a 0.5 percent decline in the Non-Food index. Meanwhile, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index recorded an increase of 0.7 percent.

The decrease in the Non-Food index was primarily driven by lower costs in the categories of Recreation and Culture, specifically online media streaming subscription services, Communication, notably internet service packages, and Clothing and Footwear.

In contrast, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index saw an increase, mainly attributed to higher prices of Fish and Seafood, particularly fresh fish; Fruit, specifically fresh tropical fruit; and Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in February 2026 showed an increase of 0.2 percent from January 2026. This rise was driven by increases in both the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index and the Non-Food index.

The CPI is a measure of price changes of a fixed basket of goods and services purchased by consumers in a specified period and is compiled on a monthly basis. The full CPI report for February 2026 is available on the DEPS website, 'deps.mofe.gov.bn'.
