Minister Highlights Workplace Mental Well-being at 2026 Safety Forum

Bandar seri begawan: Psychosocial risks such as excessive workload, workplace harassment, prolonged stress, and role ambiguity can negatively affect workers' judgment, performance, and safety. The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and the Second Minister of Defence emphasized the importance of recognizing mental well-being as a crucial component of occupational safety and health. Employers and organizations are urged to create a respectful, supportive, and psychologically safe work environment. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister Responsible for the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority, SHENA, highlighted these points during his speech at the Opening of the 2026 Safety Forum.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat stressed that strengthening psychosocial resilience in the workplace is vital for achieving a resilient and high-quality workforce, aligning with Wawasan Brunei 2035. He stated that risk management is a strategic investment and that organizations prioritizing occupational safety and health holistically often see significant returns through reduced employee absenteeism and improved productivity. However, neglecting these risks can lead to operational instability and financial disruptions.

The forum featured keynote presentations on emotional resilience and leadership in the workplace. With over 200 participants from various sectors, the event provided a platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing on mental well-being in the workplace, leadership responsibilities, psychosocial risk management, and organizational resilience. An exhibition highlighted initiatives related to safety, health, and psychosocial well-being in the workplace.
