Bandar seri begawan: The public, especially those residing in flood-affected regions, is urged to take essential precautionary measures to prevent accidents, injuries, and the spread of infectious diseases. This advisory was released by the Ministry of Health following recent active weather conditions that resulted in flooding across several areas in the country.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Ministry has outlined several health and safety measures to be observed during and after flood events. These include ensuring that the water supply remains clean and uncontaminated, recommending the consumption of bottled water or boiled water to ensure safety. Additionally, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of cooking all food thoroughly and maintaining personal hygiene by washing hands with clean water and soap before meals, after using the toilet, and when exposed to floodwater.
The advisory also stresses the importance of maintaining cleanliness in living environments and nearby areas, urging the public not to dispose of garbage carelessly. It is crucial to prevent stagnant water, which could serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and to ensure that water drainage systems are clear of debris such as garbage, mud, and tree branches. Individuals experiencing symptoms of illness are advised to seek medical treatment immediately.
Furthermore, the safety of children should be prioritized by preventing their exposure to floodwater. The public is also advised to avoid entering flooded spaces with existing electrical connections and to refrain from touching electrical cables or wires in contact with floodwater. For individuals with wounds, skin diseases, or chronic health issues, it is recommended to avoid contact with floodwater to prevent infections. Lastly, patients with chronic conditions should ensure they have an adequate supply of necessary medications.
